Lead Architect
Are you ready to help us on our mission toward a greener, more data-driven future? At ElBits we aim for digital innovation that meets sustainability in a friendly, well-funded joint venture.
ElBits is an ambitious collaboration among Norway’s grid companies aimed at driving change in the power grid industry. We achieve this by integrating and standardizing data and developing digital products. Our goal is to create a digital infrastructure that the industry will increase grid capacity and efficiency, as well as streamline and improve customer experiences.
With our partnerships, deep industry expertise, and access to critical data, we are uniquely positioned to innovate and address the challenges of today’s energy systems. By making data accessible and enabling collaboration, we unlock the grid industry's potential. Together, we contribute to solving one of the greatest challenges of our time – the energy transition.
At Elbits, we are building a multi-tenant, scalable, and secure data platform to support a growing portfolio of services and help modernize how power grid companies work with data. We want to build a platform as we go - not spend two years in isolation, building out capacity and support that we will never need. Our ambition is to standardize and enhance data collaboration across the Norwegian grid industry, establishing best practices that promote cooperation, data integrity, and automation.
With two products already launched and more on the way, we’re taking a product-driven approach to data, treating it as something to be continuously improved, maintained, and made useful across company boundaries. It’s a bold and collaborative effort that calls for new ways of working, and we’re just getting started.
To help us on this journey, we are hiring a Lead Architect who is excited about the challenge of shaping a data platform that sits at the core of meaningful, long-term work. You thrive in environments where the problems are complex, the path isn’t always clear, and real impact comes from collaboration, creativity, and deep technical thinking.
This role will work closely with our Head of Technology and our platform team to shape our long-term data strategy and guide day-to-day data platform development. You’ll be a key advisor who ensures we take a product-oriented approach to collecting, improving, and keeping data usable across multiple grid companies and use cases.
Responsibilities
As Lead Architect, you'll take ownership of the data team's direction and objectives, ensuring alignment across the organization. You’ll engage closely with internal stakeholders - the platform and product teams - to create shared value, coordinate priorities, and foster a service-minded, collaborative approach.
Some examples of what you'll be responsible for:
- Lead and support the data team by providing technical direction across the platform, covering ingestion, storage, transformation, governance, and access control.
- Depending on your previous experience, you may also take on line management responsibilities – something we’re happy to shape together.
- Work closely with our platform team and the Head of Technology to shape and align architectural decisions across systems, ensuring a cohesive technical direction.
- Bridge technical and stakeholder needs by translating diverse requirements from partner companies and internal teams into scalable technical solutions.
- Design and build a platform that supports multi-tenancy, security, and performance, keeping in mind the needs of different organizations using the platform.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration between developers, data engineers, and product teams to build a unified and pragmatic approach to data.
- Champion best practices in data governance, quality, privacy, and reliability internally at ElBits and externally to our partners.
- Help navigate the tension between short-term delivery and long-term scalability, making conscious trade-offs when needed.
- Contribute to data governance by helping shape practices for data integration, metadata management, and ensuring data is discoverable, traceable, and well-documented across systems.
What makes you a great fit?
- Proven experience designing and building distributed data platforms or complex data systems from scratch, with a deep understanding of the data lifecycle from ingestion to processing, storage, and access.
- Experience with modern data and analytics tools and principles, including designing and managing data systems.
- Proven experience in setting architectural direction and strategy, fostering a culture of high-performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Experience with access control and security mechanisms to ensure proper data protection and compliance.
- Hands-on mindset – actively involved in coding, reviewing, debugging, and leading by example, ensuring the team adheres to best practices.
- Experience designing for multi-tenancy or platforms that support complex, varied user needs across different organizations or product groups.
- Skilled in cross-functional collaboration, working closely with e.g. platform teams, product teams, and management to ensure alignment and avoid silos.
- Ability to bridge technical and stakeholder needs, translating complex technical concepts into practical, scalable solutions for both internal teams and external partners.
- User-centric mindset, ensuring that solutions are designed with the end-user in mind, with a focus on usability, accessibility, and overall experience.
While not a requirement, it is a plus if you have:
- Experience in a startup or scale-up environment, comfortable making trade-offs and building iteratively.
- Experience with linked data concepts, such as knowledge graphs, ontologies, or semantic data modeling, is a plus.
- You are familiar with the complexity of working with public datasets and domain-specific constraints.
- You have exposure to the energy sector, especially grid data, infrastructure, or standardized information models, and understand their potential to drive interoperability and unlock value across the industry.
What can we offer?
First, we want to emphasize the opportunity to pursue new challenges and uncharted territories. This role will help us build a robust and cross-functional platform environment and you'll have the opportunity to work with truly amazing and competent colleagues, making a real impact in Norway's grid sector.
We also offer:
- A positive, flexible, and trust-based work environment.
- To have your work have a great social impact and make a difference in the energy sector.
- Great pension and insurance policies.
- Modern office centrally located at Rådhusgata in Oslo, one of Europe’s fastest-growing cities.
- Choice of equipment and other necessary tools to ensure you have everything you need to perform your role effectively.
- Great colleagues & social events.
What does the process look like?
- Apply with your CV and contact information.
- If we find your profile interesting, we’ll schedule a short (30-minute) conversation with our recruitment advisor.
- After that, we’ll set up a Meet & Greet with our Head of Technology.
- For the second interview, we’ll have a more in-depth discussion about your experience and understanding of the role. Here we will inform you about our way of working and more about us. We conduct a short exercise through a personality test with Aon.
- The final chat will involve a meeting with our CEO.
- We do a couple of reference checks and send you an offer!
We use Semac for background checks after the final offer to verify the information provided during the process.
